| Stamford's Poet Laureate |
|
The new Stamford Poet Laureate for 2013/14 is Teresa McLean Teresa used to write poetry as a child, continuing into her teens with poems regularly appearing in her secondary school magazine. She wrote into adulthood but then the skill fell into disuse while she brought up her three children, two of whom inherited her love of words and stories. Unfortunately most of her earlier work was destroyed in a fire but, after the death of her husband, she started attending poetry events and participating in writing workshops which led to her starting to write again. She has won minor prizes in small competitions and also pens the occasional song for performance at local folk clubs. Since retiring from her work as a housing support worker she has taken up gardening which provides organic vegetables as well as valuable thinking time and for the Queens Golden Jubilee worked with pensioners in Rutland producing a booklet of memories of the coronation.
