South Kesteven District Council’s arts centres are looking to build on the success of their online events during lockdown with a new autumn programme full of variety.
Stamford Arts Centre and Grantham’s Guildhall Arts Centre will be premiering several unique or specially commissioned shows and concerts between now and Christmas.
The venues, which have both started a phased reopening, aim to provide both regular and new audiences with a programme similar to that which would normally have been experienced live.
SKDC Cabinet Member for Culture and Visitor Economy, Cllr Rosemary Trollope-Bellew said:
“Connecting audiences with high-quality activities and events during the pandemic has been our key goal. This new programme of work will continue to create opportunities for local creative artists and performers to share their skills and talents as we begin the process of safely reopening our greatly missed venues to the general public.”
Ben Reynolds, Stamford Arts Centre’s Box Office Supervisor, said:
“We are proud to present a number of different shows that our audiences can enjoy at home this autumn.
Thousands have enjoyed our jazz concerts, Music In Quiet Places series and special theatre pieces, such as Mrs Siddons In Lockdown over the spring and summer.
We see this as an opportunity to build upon the success of these online events, while we wait for restrictions to allow people back into our theatres in a sustainable way.”
Some of the coming events, premiering on both YouTube and Facebook, are even being filmed at the Arts Centres, meaning performers can re-create their shows in the space they was designed for.
Forthcoming online events include a Gravity Fields Festival day, jazz and classical music concerts, theatre and dance shows, family activities and Zoom-hosted workshops.
