Wed 20 Jun, The Cellar Bar stamford cellar bar, talks
This is the story of two North Sea crossings and Beatrice’s five hundred mile walk through Norway, from Oslo, over the Dovrefjell mountains and into Trondheim, harnessed to a forty kilo, beloved Orcadian rock.
As we speed our ways through a built-up world, we often miss the potential that the landscape has to anchor and fortify us. The carving of the Orkney Boat and the journey made with it, is an artistic response to that lost experience. For The Journey and Return with The Orkney Boat was a public, performative art project and part of Magnus 900, a cultural programme that ran throughout 2017 to mark Magnus Erlendsson, 900 years after his death.
The project was generously supported by the Orkney Islands Council, Orkney Arts, Museums and Heritage and 37 private donors.
As a little side note: It was Beatrice that carved the Stamford Poetry Stone!
