Praised by The Guardian as “one of the most adaptable chamber groups in the country”, Ensemble 360 are renowned for virtuoso performances, bold programming and engaging interpretations of music ranging from baroque duos, through classical quartets to new commissions for all eleven players in the Ensemble.
For this concert they will be formed as a Piano Quartet to play a most interesting piece of Mahler, his Piano Quartet in A minor, the only piece of chamber music he wrote not to feature a singer.
The Suk quartet was inspired by Dvorak who had only recently become Suk’s teacher. It is named “Opus 1”, not because it was Suk’s first published work, but because after Dvorak’s encouragement, he regarded it as his first important work.
The Brahms Quartet is influenced by the works of Schubert. It was premiered in 1861 with Clara Schumann playing the piano part.
