Stephanie Allman sang for many years with a leading London Chamber Choir, Nonsuch Singers, and performed important solos in venues including St. Martin in the Fields. She has performed solos with other choirs including a recent trip to Switzerland with the St. Martin Singers.
She is joined for this exploration of Impressionism in words and music by Simon Gill (piano), Chris Roberts (violin) and David Lee (reader). Impressionism, a great artistic movement, acquired its name from a painting by Monet. Generally applied to painting, it is also used for musicians and writers who created atmosphere and emotion by subjective, sensory impressions.
The words of critics and supporters together with examples of ‘Literary Impressionism’ will introduce and lead us through the music. The evening will begin and end with Debussy; contain songs by Ravel, Sibelius and Vaughan Williams and include composers influenced by them like George Gershwin. The programme will also have piano and violin solos.
Stephanie and David both live in the small Rutland village of Glaston where St Andrew’s Church recently lost two thirds of its roof to lead thieves. This event to raise funds for the Roof Restoration Fund is an extended version of a lunchtime concert they gave in Wesley’s Chapel, London last year.
