Live in the Yard: THE BUMBLIN' BEES

For the second instalment of our live jazz broadcasts we are joined by The Bumblin’ Bees AKA Rachael Johnson and Joshua Burke-Martin. A piano and bass duo that combine jazz, funk, swing and latin. Rachael is an accomplished pianist with 2 albums already released and more on the way. Since writing with her partner Burke and forming The Bumblin’ Bees they have released a select handful of accomplished singles and their highly anticipated debut album is currently in the recording stages.

Breaking onto the scene last year they have already gained a rather large following around the East Midlands with festival appearances (pre-COVID!) scheduled throughout the summer. Often they can be seen performing as a trio with a drummer and occasionally with guest musicians but here they are getting back to basics and keeping things simple as a duo with a selection of classics you will have heard before and a few future classics as well.

Rachael has performed at the Copenhagen Jazz Festival with her own trio, and at the North Sea Jazz Festival with the Matthew Herbert Big Band. She also appeared at Stamford Arts Centre earlier this year performing alongside top UK jazz vocalist Tina May.

This event has been recorded inside a home studio, not in 'the yard' as planned, due to weather and household isolation for a member of the advertised group. All performers are part of the same household.
