Live in (sort of) Lockdown

The second of our online cabarets

Our online programme of events are free to watch and take part in. If you would like to support the work that we are doing to provide arts at home, while theatres across the country are closed, you can donate here.

The second of our online cabarets, this month features music from the brilliant Charity Stow, local favourites Pennyless and jazz from Jeanie Barton and Helen Gayle. Plus comedy from Christian Russell-Pollock and Duncan Oakley, and poetry from Scott Coe.

THE LINE-UP

After years as a principal in the National Youth Music Theatre, Jeanie studied jazz harmony at Morley College in London and cut her teeth as singer and compare for bebop pioneer Laurie Morgan’s trio, fronting their famous North London weekly gig, Downstairs at The King’s Head in Crouch End for over a decade.  She went on to support Georgie Fame, sing backing vocals for Luddy Samms (The Drifters) and recently performed for Samuel L Jackson!

Credits include performances at The Jazz Cafe, The 606 club, Ronnie Scott’s and The National Theatre, as well as a cruise on the Seine in Paris and the Cannes Film Festival.  Jeanie was voted “Best Newcomer” at the Marlborough Jazz Festival 2015.

Pennyless

Pennyless love musical variety and the two videos here show each end of their creative spectrum. "Merrie Dance" inspired by live gigs on the Albatros ship in Wells next the Sea during the annual pirate festival, and "Dancing with Annabel" drifting into prog-folk dreamworld. Both tracks are found on 2016 album "In the Park" which has been critically acclaimed with fine production by Tom Savage of Jigsaw studios, Frognall near Deeping St James. Albums are available from the website, along with other videos and audio tracks from the 10 year Pennyless journey!

Pennyless are Penny Stevens, Les Woods, Graham Dale, Colin Benton and Pete Edmondson guesting on drums.

Scott Coe

Scott Coe is a performance poet and artist currently based in Peterborough. He believes poetry should always be written from the heart – it’s all about feeling and is always at it’s best when written in the moment, when the thoughts run straight from your soul to the pen.

He's spent the time in lockdown exploring other poetic forms as well as working on new projects in art and filmmaking, looking to take his poetry into new areas.

He has also made several radio appearances recently on both BBC Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire.
