MUSIC IN QUIET PLACES from Bourne Abbey Church

An Online Concert with Freya Goldmark and Reuben Goldmark

The second in our pair of online Music in Quiet Places concerts.

Siblings Freya Goldmark, violin and Reuben Goldmark, piano present a wonderful programme ranging from Elgar to Bartok to Gershwin in the beautiful setting of Bourne Abbey. Between them they have performed as soloists in many of the UK's major venues including Queen Elizabeth Hall, Albert Hall's Elgar Room and Cadogan Hall.

A London-based pianist and composer, Reuben Goldmark was a finalist in the prestigious BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year competition in 2018 and has performed his own compositions at the Queen Elizabeth Hall as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival. Reuben’s music was also broadcast on BBC 4 and BBC Radio 3. In London he is continuing his studies at the Royal Academy of Music, studying with Nikki Iles, Tom Cawley, Kit Downes and Gwilym Simcock. Reuben incorporates influences ranging from Messiaen to Mehldau in his music, combining the calculated detail of classical music with the turbulent nature of jazz and improvised music.

Freya Goldmark began her music ‘career’ aged 2 when she started attending Music Makers at Stamford Art Centre. This ignited her love of music and she began playing the violin at the age of 4 after begging her parents for lessons. Freya made her concerto debut aged just 13 at the Rachmaninov Institute [Russia]. By the age of 14 Freya had already performed in Hong Kong, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Norway and Germany.

Freya, who plays a violin made around 1740 by Camilli of Mantua, recently graduated from the Royal College of Music where she studied as a Foundation Scholar with her long time professor Maciej Rakowski. Her career includes performances at Cadogan Hall, The Wigmore Hall, Sandringham House, the Elgar Room at the Albert Hall, The Red House, Aldeburgh and the Purcell Room in London’s Southbank Centre. Freya also works with a number of English orchestras. She is greatly looking forward to performing Goldmark's Violin Concerto with Oxford Symphony Orchestra in 2021.
