An exhibition of contemporary ceramics by Soraya Smithson

"So’Bosch is a major project of ceramic pieces inspired by Hieronymus Bosch paintings.  Bosch’s combination of the real and the fantastical elements tally with my own feelings of disjuncture. Many of the Bosch objects I re-create in ceramics are shelters of some kind.  I am interested in ideas of dwelling, occupation of space, and hiding, safety versus entrapment." - Soraya Smithson

Soraya Smithson completed Foundation at Chelsea College of Art and a B.A Fine Art Middlesex Polytechnic in London followed by an M.A at The University of Northumbria and is based in Stamford. She produces prints, collage, books, sewn pieces, paintings and other objects, making drawings in the broadest sense, with scissors, needles, tin snips and a fretsaw as well as ink.

Her current project concerns making ceramic pieces and prints based on objects depicted in Hieronymus Bosch paintings. She has been working on this body of work for a number of years now and some pieces have been shown in St. Ives, Cornwall, but this is the first time they will be displayed as a coherent group.
