The plants Cook and Banks discovered during the Endeavour voyage of 1768 to 1771 were immortalised in copper printing plates thanks to Banks’ efforts, but it was only in 1980 that all 743 of these beautiful and important botanical engravings were printed.

Mark James’ talk will examine the history of Banks’ Florilegium, and investigate why these remarkable engravings remained forgotten for so long.
