In 1 day you will learn the skills needed to make a pleated lampshade with a balloon lining and contrasting bias trim.
This style of lampshade usually takes 2 days so in order for us to finish in a day you will be provided with a pre cut lining in white cotton lawn.
You will learn how to bind the frame, how a pattern for the lining can be measured, how to mark out the frame and lining for pleats. We then move on to pinning and sewing by hand the fabric in place for the pleated fabric. This is followed by machine sewing our balloon lining and securing this in position before stitching by hand. The final phase is marking out and sewing our bias binding to fit snuggly on the top and bottom frame before then being shown different techniques to secure it in place.
Previous hand sewing experience would be beneficial but not essential.
What you need to bring:
Fabric : a light weight cotton lawn is perfect for beginners. Fabric weighing between 85gms and 185gms is ideal. Any thicker and the hand sewing could take longer. Bring 128cm width x 25cm height
Bias Binding: if you have time you can make your bias binding from your fabric.( as in the photos) If you want to do this , bring 2 x 1 metre lengths cut to 5cm wide on the bias. If not, then bring 2 metres of plain bias binding. Between approx 2cm width.
Ribbon: you will make 2 little gimbles so bring 10cm of ribbon . Colour of your choice. Gimbles are the yellow parts on the photos.
