After her mother’s sudden death, Rebecca (Miley Locke) moves with her father (Johnny Harris) from the UK to Jerusalem, in the hopes that a new beginning will help her heal.
Settling into her grandfather’s old house in the Valley of the Ghosts, Rebecca befriends Rasha, a Palestinian girl only she can see. Is Rasha a figment of Rebecca’s imagination, or is she connected to the home’s troubled past?
An exploration of personal memory and collective histories that draws on Palestinian director Muayad Alayan’s (Love, Theft, And Other Entanglements) own family’s past, co-written with his brother Rami, A House in Jerusalem was shot in location in Jerusalem in 2021, before the current war in Gaza began. A profoundly affecting film to watch at the current, deeply painful moment, it’s a haunting, supernatural story about friendship and loss and a compassionate plea for an end to suffering and injustice.
