Armageddon Time (15)

Armageddon Time (15)

Tuesday 10th January 7:30pm: Cinema Speak Screening!

Dir: James Gray USA 2022 1hr 54mins

With: Anthony Hopkins, Ann Hathaway

A coming-of-age story set in the dull suburbs of New York City in 1980 this is a deeply personal reminiscence by American auteur director James Gray on the passing of innocence and the limitations of family life as experienced by 11 year old Paul, a smart kid who learns some hard lessons about life, society, and racism that feel almost contemporary. The film even has one scene where Jessica Chastain plays Donald Trump's sister Maryanne lecturing a group of privileged schoolchildren! A masterclass in screen acting, not least from its young lead holding his own against Anthony Hopkins, Ann Hathaway and Jeremy Strong, Armageddon Time subtly questions the true nature of the American Dream.
