This fierce, powerful biopic (the first in a two-part project) follows Charles de Gaulle's rise from army officer to leader of the French Resistance against Nazi Germany during World War II. Simon Abkarian stars as De Gaulle, backed by Simon Russell Beale as Winston Churchill – a dynamic figure who de Gaulle views as both a challenger and an ally – and Campbell Scott as Franklin D. Roosevelt in an exceptional ensemble cast.

June 1940. France collapses and signs the armistice. Amidst the chaos, one man flees to London to save what remains of freedom, armed with one essential conviction – that the battle for France is not yet lost. As resistance fighters, rebellious students and determined soldiers rise up in England, France and Africa to join his cause, their faith, audacity and thirst for freedom defy the outcome history seemed to have written in advance.
