HIRED SCREENING

In this special screening and brief Q&A, local filmmaker Hal York-Forward presents his final student film. Elly Nisar, The Ex-Mormon is a short documentary reflecting on the life of a now 21 year old Elly and her journey away from Mormonism which started at the age of just 17.

Through conversation, formal interview and home video, the film provides an intimate look into how leaving your family's faith is more than just a step away from a belief system. At 17, Elly found herself living alone in Doncaster on universal credit after her family decided to move to the Mormon homeland of Utah. Throughout the film we explore the events of what happened and the subsequent seismic effects they had on Elly’s life.
