Lola (15)

Lola (15)

Dir: Andrew Legge UK 2022 1hr 19mins

With: Stefanie Martini, Emma Appleton

Making history will never be the same again if what goes on at the heart of this refreshingly oddball piece of British sci-fi is to be believed. Shot in black and white and using lots of found footage and odd cameras (including one Stanley Kubrick broke when filming 2001!) Lola tells the tale of two sisters, Thomasina and Martha, who build a machine called LOLA in 1940 that has the ability to reveal the future. At first it’s all fun and games with flash-forwards to the 1960s and ‘70s but with World War 2 at stake LOLA’s pictures becomes gradually more upsetting.

“Lola is a marvel. Glittering, haunting, intelligent, and profound” Electric Shadows
