Philippa compares two very different Stamford houses. She investigates who lived in each building over time, what they did and for what that building was used.
The first was built in the 17th century, with 18th and 19th century additions. It was home to a silk merchant and later a music teacher. The grounds behind have accommodated a silk-throwsting mill and later a builder’s workshop.
The second dates from 1698 and stands in substantial grounds high above the town. It was given a new front and other physical changes, to accommodate a royal entourage, and later became an Infant Welfare Clinic.
