How did people in the town and area communicate, in both short and long range?
Philippa looks at the need for knowledge to be passed among people, and the various conduits that became available as technology created new and different ways of passing information. Her talk ranges from speech, through writing, publishing, and the postal system, to electronic communications such as telegraphs, telegrams and telephones.
All these have contributed to the sharing of data, and today’s computers, email and on-line conferencing have hugely enlarged our communications systems.
