
Philippa investigates how the town has managed to obtain this essential liquid, from river, spring, well and pump, to our modern water mains. She also looks at floods, and how the town dealt with sanitation, mains drainage coming fairly late to Stamford.
The town’s industrial processes all required copious amounts of water; the river and later, the canal, provided this, and were also the trade conduits which contributed to its expansion and wealth.
