Shoshana 15

Inspired by real events, Shoshana is both a political thriller set in 1930s Tel Aviv and a virtual power-point explanation of how the state of Israel came about.

With: Irina Starshenbaum, Douglas Booth

Inspired by real events, Shoshana is both a political thriller set in 1930s Tel Aviv and a virtual power-point explanation of how the state of Israel came about. Using a combination of old newsreels and well-acted drama the film depicts a love story between a detective, Thomas Wilkin, who works in the anti-terrorist squad of the British Palestine Police force, and the passionate Shoshana, a young Jewish woman with her own ideas of right and wrong. Using the relationship between these committed individuals the film explores the way extremism and violence (committed here, almost entirely, by Jewish freedom-fighters) drives a wedge between people, forcing them - then as now in the war-torn Middle East - to choose sides.

"Ultimately a smartly crafted and rigorously acted plea for tolerance and compassion" The Times
