Sharp Little Bones was formed by members of the house band of Peggy's Skylight, a multi-award-winning jazz venue, and is led by bassist and composer Simon Paterson. Joined by drummer Andrew 'Woody' Wood, keyboardist Paul Deats and MOBO-nominated, multi-BBC Jazz and Parliamentary Jazz Awards winner Tony Kofi, they form a virtuosic quartet playing compositions that reach deep within and far outside the jazz canon. Their sound has a fresh, contemporary appeal: an eclectic audio melting pot of jazz, funk, blues, bop and electronica. They have sold out venues and delighted audiences around the country, from jazz clubs and festivals to Nottingham’s legendary Rock City.
Sharp Little Bones present Step Up! Get Down!, their second album of original music. Created from a shared desire to write and perform music that is unmistakably their own, the recording brings together memorable melodies, infectious grooves and adventurous improvisation.
Since the release of critically acclaimed blockbuster debut double album,Volumes I & II, Sharp Little Bones have carved out a distinctive space that bridges deep jazz traditions with modern energy and edge. Within well-crafted, melodic writing and tight, energetic, rhythmical arrangements, their sound has a fresh, contemporary appeal –an energetic and vibrant melting pot of jazz, funk, blues, post bop, latin and afrobeat, tastefully tinged with analogue electronic textures.
The band has been well received by national music press:
