Documentary
Tragedy and inspiration combine in the remarkable story of Christopher Reeve, as told in this supremely moving documentary.
After his rise from unknown stage actor to iconic film star – with his definitive portrayal of the ‘Man of Steel’ setting the benchmark for the superhero cinematic universes to follow – Reeve was paralysed from the neck down in a near-fatal horse-riding accident in 1995. He nearly gave up, but with the support of family and friends, instead became a passionate activist in support of a cure for spinal cord injuries and a tireless advocate for disability rights.
From the directors of McQueen, Super/Man makes ingenious use of intimate home movie footage and features the first extended interviews filmed with Reeve’s children – plus input from friends including Susan Sarandon, Whoopi Goldberg and Glenn Close – to tell a tremendously powerful, hopeful and inspiring story of real heroism.
