Based on a story by the Russian author Alexander Pushkin this absolutely priceless gem of a British film tells of an elderly countess who strikes a bargain with the devil and exchanges her soul for the ability to always win at cards. An army officer, who is also a fanatic about cards, plays the countess beyond the limits of life and death and is subsequently haunted by the woman's spirit.
