Dir: Kane Parsons | USA | 2026 | 110 mins
Cast | Chiwetel Ejiofor, Renate Reinsve, Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, Lukita Maxwell
Oscar nominees Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) and Renate Reinsve (Sentimental Value) star in Kane Parsons’ unsettling ‘90s-set horror, new from A24.
The owner of a bland suburban furniture showroom (Ejiofor) discovers a strange portal in the basement and becomes obsessed with uncovering its secrets. Recruiting his two young floor staff to help him film the space, he attempts to prove its existence to his therapist (Reinsve). But the further they go, the more frightening and uncanny this otherworldly dimension becomes.
Adapted by Parsons from his own wildly successful web series (itself based on the Backrooms internet urban legend and “creepypasta”), Backrooms is a nightmarish investigation into liminal spaces.
