The Feinstein Ensemble specialise in the historically accurate performance of music from the 18th century, and their concerts and recordings of the Baroque repertoire have been acclaimed both in the UK and internationally. They are the resident period orchestra at St Martin-in-the-Fields in London, and their Bach Weekend at Kings Place has become one of the highlights of London’s musical calendar. Collaborations with their sister group, the London Bach Singers, have resulted in critically acclaimed performances of all of Bach’s major choral works, including the Mass in B Minor, the St John and St Matthew Passions, the Magnificat and the Easter Oratorio.

They will be bringing to Stamford a programme of music to celebrate Georg Philipp Telemann, ‘The Forgotten Genius of the High Baroque’. That Telemann was a genius of the baroque period is not open to doubt, but currently, the best known composer from the baroque era is J.S. Bach. However, in 1722 and 1723, both Telemann and Graupner (see the October concert details above) were offered the position of Kantor at the Thomaskirche in Leipzig before Bach, hence providing an idea of how contemporary musicians regarded each of these composers.

Tickets £18 (£17) £10 under 26s
