Decades after witnessing the death of his father (Russell Crowe in Gladiator) at the hands of his uncle, Lucius (Mescal) is living with his wife and child when soldiers led by General Marcus Acacius (Pascal) force him into slavery.

Inspired by his father’s example, Lucius enters the Colosseum, mentored by former slave and arms dealer Macrinus (Washington). With rage in his heart and the future of the empire at stake, Lucius looks to the past to find the strength and honour he needs to return the glory of Rome to its people.
