A popular fixture of SIMfestival each May is the concert of solos and duos. This year we celebrate the centenary of György Ligeti in this concert through one of his most performed works, his solo cello sonata. Alongside this sits Poulenc's effervescent violin sonata. Although both works were being composed in the 1940's they differ enormously, perhaps magnifying the composer’s different experiences of war time Europe.
