Adapted from a novel by Graham Swift this intelligently structured story is set on Mothering Sunday 1924 and depicts the illicit consummation of a lowly housemaid and the upper-class son from a neighbouring family who have been having a sexual affair for several years. But as the son is soon to be married off will their afternoon of love-making spell the end to their relationship or a new beginning?
