Nelly is eight and her grandmother has just died. Returning with her mum and dad to granny's house in the woods to pack-up the old lady's things Nelly goes for a walk one autumnal afternoon and meets another eight-year-old girl called Marion. They quickly become friends and from this beguiling opening

Céline Sciamma's amazing film unfolds almost like a fairytale, though at its heart is a profound meditation on the mysteries of the bond between a mother and her daughter and the almost magical power such a connection holds between women.
