In a Japan of the near future, the government program Plan 75 encourages senior citizens over 75 to be voluntarily killed by the state in order to remedy the problem of a super-ageing society. An elderly woman whose means of survival are vanishing, a pragmatic Plan 75 salesman, and a young Filipino labourer face choices of life and death that at first seem to belong in a dystopian sci-fi movie but the power of this sobering film lies in the reality of Japanese society now, a population getting older and older... Awesome and brilliantly chilling.
“A film about generational rifts gradually becomes all about a conversation between the young and the old” New Indian Express
