Through poems and storytelling current Stamford Poet Laureate Chris Martin presents this solo show on mental ill health; specifically focussed on presenting stress and burnout as aspects of everyday life rather than isolated traumatic events. The autobiographical story takes you through a series of life experiences, and invites you to reflect on your own mental bandwidth. Chris is a stand-up poet based in the Midlands, whose often irreverent work has been used in both GCSE textbooks and pub arguments.
Synopsis
Not all breakdowns come from trauma.
In his first full length theatre piece, stand up poet Chris Martin explores male mental health using poems, statistics, and his own experiences of burnout and anxiety.
Spanning the party years before the financial crisis, new fatherhood during the recovery, and an incident involving a panda costume...Chris will take you on a journey which challenges your understanding of your own mental health, encouraging a more open approach to wellbeing.
This show has been developed in collaboration with mental health practitioners, bar staff, and the kind of invulnerable young men who need to hear it most.
"A creative and moving performance...and really good fun!" - Audience member
"A lot of people would benefit from seeing this show - emploers, mums, dads students..." - Local psychologist
