Magnus Hawker-French – The Music of Jay & Kai

Stamford Jazz welcomes back rising star trombonist Magnus Hawker-French to the Ballroom for a special evening celebrating the music of two giants of the instrument, J.J. Johnson and Kai Winding.

Magnus is a versatile and highly accomplished trombonist, equally at home in contemporary jazz and the classic repertoire. Regular audiences may remember his previous Stamford Jazz appearance with HAMMERHEAD, where his powerful sound, fluency and natural swing made a memorable impression.

For this performance, Magnus turns his attention to the remarkable musical partnership of Jay & Kai — whose pioneering two-trombone sound combined virtuosic playing, intricate arrangements and irresistible swing. Expect an evening of beautifully crafted jazz, from hard-driving bebop to lyrical ballads and everything in between.
