What is Eloquence of Being?
Eloquence of Being, a powerful, immersive performance that has been adapted from the poetry of Grantham writer Mike Alderson.
A fusion of physical theatre, dance, and spoken word that transforms Mike Alderson’s collection of poems into a raw, visceral narrative.
At its heart is the story of an ex-soldier navigating life after conflict, wrestling with identity, disconnection, and the elusive promise of equality.
Performed in an intimate setting, the audience sits close to the action, experiencing both the vulnerability and energy of the characters. The performance forgoes traditional music in favour of an evocative soundscape that underscores movement and mood, enhancing the immersive experience.
This is poetry brought to life with edge and intent. The cast features a truly diverse range of performers—neurodiverse individuals, artists with physical disabilities, and actors across generations, including the poet himself, who embodies his own words live on stage.
“Poems move across the city scape, under the radar, where equality sings in your breath and knocks on your door…”
Following the performance, we offer a Q&A session, inviting the audience to reflect on the themes raised—some of which may be uncomfortable, but necessary. Our aim is not only to move people but to start conversations.
