Dir: Gilles Legardinier | France | 2025 | 110 mins | Subtitled
Cast | John Malkovich, Fanny Ardant, Émilie Dequenne, Philippe Bas
Noted francophile John Malkovich (Dangerous Liaisons) and French screen star Fanny Ardant join forces in Gilles Legardinier’s witty, autumnal drama.
A widowed British businessman (Malkovich) takes a job as butler in a French manor house. He aims to keep the memories of his late French wife alive, but his life takes a turn as he must navigate the eccentric behavior of the lady of the manor (Ardant) and her household staff.
The arrival of their very British guest spurs them to new life, prompting them to consider working together to restore the manor’s former beauty. The result may be a new lease of life for the Beauvillier estate – and everyone living on it.
