Carmen Emmi’s award-winning debut is a brooding psychological thriller starring Russell Tovey and Tom Blyth.

Syracuse, 1997. Undercover police officer Lucas (Blyth) is dealing with a breakup and the loss of his father. When he’s assigned to lure and arrest gay men in a mall bathroom, he is surprised to discover a scintillating connection with Andrew (Tovey), one of his targets. As their connection deepens, and internal pressure to deliver arrests intensifies, Lucas is torn between duty and desire.

Superbly performed, harnessing lo-fi VHS footage to play with notions of surveillance, Plainclothes is a riveting story of forbidden love in an atmosphere of intolerance.
