New Year French Bal with Trio Meunier Villeneuve

Now in it’s 10th year, the French bal will again introduce people to some simple traditional French couple and circle dances with the energetic music of the Trio Meunier Villeneuve, as part of their first tour of England.

The evening will start with a beginners dance workshop. Following in the footsteps of the famous hurdy-gurdy, bagpipe, and accordion formula, this trio revisits and enriches the world of traditional music from central France. Influenced by their diverse backgrounds, their music is imbued with jazz, pop, and rock influences. we are pleased to welcome some of the foremost young traditional musicians in France.

French bals are a fun, easy form of dance popular across Europe, something like a European ceilidh with circle dances like the Chapeloise and Cercle Circassien, partnered dances including Schottish, Mazurka, Waltz, Polka and Bourée.
