Dir: Todd Field USA 2022 2hrs 38mins
With: Cate Blanchett, Noémie Merlant
Cate Blanchett gives an outstanding performance as Lydia Tár, a world famous orchestral conductor whose intense dedication to her job and the power that accompanies it leads her from the dizzy heights of international fame into an altogether stranger, and much darker, place. This ambitious and fiercely intelligent film shows the consequences of Tár’s need to control virtually every aspect of her rich and privileged life in rare and astonishing detail. A mesmerising work.
