This concert marks the opening of SIMFestival’s 2026 season and offers an early reflection of the musical ideas and repertoire that will shape the May festival. Violinist Freya Goldmark and pianist Joseph Havlat present a programme that introduces key musical threads running through this year’s events.

Beethoven’s Violin Sonata No. 10 in G major, Op. 96 stands at the culmination of his writing for the genre, notable for its lyricism, structural refinement, and the finely balanced dialogue between violin and piano. Grieg’s Second Violin Sonata in G major, Op. 13 draws on Norwegian folk idioms within a Romantic framework, combining rhythmic vitality with expansive melodic writing.

Korngold’s Much Ado About Nothing Suite, drawn from his incidental music to Shakespeare’s play, introduces a composer whose music will feature prominently throughout SIMFestival 2026.

Performed in St Martin’s Church, this concert serves as both an introduction to the 2026 festival and an opportunity to situate its repertoire within a wider historical and cultural context.
